Anybody know this '70 TA?

Just curious. When I was looking for my car I came across this one. It was at a dealer in Indianapolis. They had it listed for 65K. The guy immediately came down to 55K without me even asking. It had been restored 15+ years ago and had been driven quite a bit since and showed it. I passed on it. then it showed up at another dealer a couple months ago with no price. Then a couple weeks ago it appeared at RAMC with no price listed. Now RAMC has it on Ebay. It's up to 60K with reserve not met yet. Ends today.. Not a bad car but way overpriced. It has some paint/finish problems, surface rust on the bottoms of the rear quarters, doors, rockers and jams.

Plenty of things on this TA for me to quibble about, that definitely takes it out of the $60K+ clan. It'll be interesting to see where the eBay price ends up.

I first saw this car come up for sale as a project in 2004. At that time, it had no engine at all, and an incorrect rear axle. It was then restored, and advertised at a dealer in 2012 as having a "correct" engine. Then a dealer called Exotic Motors listed it (it's bounced around to a lot of dealers...) in 2017, and described it as "100% numbers matching". At least RAMC is being honest that it isn't the original motor.

Beautiful car

I don't think 60k is unreasonable. I've seen a lot more incorrect cars sell for that or more.

I don't have any real problem with the correctness of the car. It does have some incorrect things for sure but my main issue with it is the overall condition. At the time I got my car, freshly restored cars were selling for around 60K. This car shows a lot of road wear and has some rust. RAMC did spend some time spiffing it up and they were careful not to show most of the problems it has in their photos. Now, I never saw the car in person but I did talk to a person who did an inspection on it and I have around 130 close up photos from the inspection.

So the bids got up to 61,300 and it did not sell. I just read through the ad from RAMC again. There's some real BS in there. They seem to be claiming it has 11,300 actual miles and "very few miles" since the restoration, which is ridiculous. And the impression they give is that it's a top notch car. My opinion of RAMC just went down quite a bit. I think they probably do decent work on their own restorations and I have no problem with people selling cars that are less than perfect but I don't think they're doing themselves any favors by this kind of deception.

It shows pretty well in the pics provided, which just shows that you need to investigate further before spending that much $$$, since jhein has pics showing more of the actual wear and tear.
I would never even hint at a 50+ year old car having that low of miles unless I had a whole bunch of documentation.

When I spoke with the inspector, literally the first words out of his mouth were, "it needs another restoration"...

I don't know if these people are still operating or not, but see below.

"Wheels carry generic GM codes. Leave them as they are, fill them and or stamp your own"

Says sale pending

Spoke with Dave last week and he said the owner was asking $70k+

Wonder what they settled for

jhein 11-22-2021 02:01 PM

If they can sell that car for north of 70k, then I know where to sell my car on consignment
