1965 421 Production Breakdown
 

Anyone know the production numbers for 65 421's?

I found an old post here with 1966 numbers but didn't see anything for 65.

What cars - what engines?
 

Is there any breakdown of what engines went into what body cars?

For example, how many 421HO 3x2 engines went into Convertibles, 2+2, 2 door cars, 4 door cars, Catalina's, Bonneville's etc?

My 1965 Bonneville 4 door hardtop has a "YK" 421 HO Tripower. Factory installed according to the build sheet. Still in the car.

I just can't imagine that would have been a popular engine choice to fit into a 4DRHT car. In America.

My car was built as an Export car, came to Australia brand new, and would have been a VERY expensive car when retailed brand new here so I guess when it was ordered the dealer here ticked as many boxes as possible to show it as an unusual car with unusual specifications.

In '86, when Plant 8 was building Buick GN Regals, the feds put in a special order for Border Patrol cars. Computers had the speed limiter chips removed, and some other demon tweaks. Cars ran on second shift, there were agents in the plant in the sensitive areas, and no hourly workers drove the cars off the end of the line (a neighborhood friend was in Plant 8 at the time, just out of GMI.)

There were 11,521 65 2+2's produced. All of them had 421 engines. So am I missing something in post #2 with the 421 production numbers? It seems that virtually all the 421's would have gone into 2+2's unless I am reading something wrong?

I've got a lot of production info, but nothing on 1965 that isn't known already. But total up the 421 engines from the PHS that aren't cop cars, then subtract that from 2+2 production numbers and you'll figure out what was installed in aggregate in Catalina/Star Chief/Bonneville/Grand Prix models.

Sounds like a consular car. A friend has a 62 4dr HT Bonneville which was one of a handful brought new to Australia and loaded with fruit - power seats, windows, brakes, steer, tri-power 389, etc.

I don’t think so Marv. It was imported by Southern Motors, converted by Chapel Engineering and sold in Melbourne (as best I have found out), to a furniture retail company. When I bought it, I found a little note book with quotes for arborist work by a tree popper. I gave the company a call and spoke to the guys son. He confirmed his dad had owned it and had bought it from a major furniture retailer but couldn’t remember which one. Or maybe didn’t want to say?? The car was only a couple of years old when his dad bought it.

He did say his dad had constant trouble with it not running right and he had the triple carbs removed. He told me they still had “all the bits” in the shed. I went and got the intake and carbs but they were pretty crappy. Still got them.

What is the production number for where line goes through - for 421 4bbl with automatic - code YH?
Also - the manual transmission numbers include 3spd, and both wide and special-order close ratio 4spds, correct?
