What is your favorite loud(er) cheap muffler

I'm putting some new exhaust on my new junker 79 chevy square ranch truck. It has a rebuilt 400 small block (someday a Pontiac) with a 4spd and 6" lift. I picked it up cheap and plan to run it exclusively off-road. Its starting to run pretty good! It currently has 4 tube headers with 3" collector reducing into 2.25" cats on each side and glasspacks dumping before the rear axle. It sounds like crap and NOT loud enough. I'm actually shocked at how crappy it sounds! I plan to remove everything behind the header and replace with 2.5" straight pipes/no cats/new mufflers dumping before the rear axle.

I have the dynomax ultraflows on my Pontiac with full exhaust (RARE 3" oval X pipe) and I love the sound. I would like to find some CHEAP mufflers that are at least as loud as the ultraflows and still sound good (or good enough), louder is ok as long as its not obnoxious but too quiet won't cut it!. Do I need to pony up for the ultraflows, or can I make this happen for less cash? Remember, CHEAP! This is my budget ranch warrior truck! Thanks gentlemen!

Pypes race pros are basically the same as ultra flows, they are a perforated straight through pipe with some packing in the case, cheaper than ultraflows but still a quality muffler, I run them in a 3" X pipe set up on a 500+hp stroker 467.

Can also check on ebay, there is or used to be some brands offering the same straight through type nuffler for very cheap, like $70/pr depending on size. Think it was "full boar" or something like that.

Went with the full boar mufflers at $42 each. Thanks for the recommendation!

Cool. Let us know how they sound. I was considering them for my 301 turbo car to replace the dynomax super turbos, the ST are nice mufflers but really killed the turbo spooling sound on my car, probably due to the "flow directors" that do restrict flow compared to a straight through design.

I like the sound of the Ultraflows I have them on my 78 TA and the IA/Camaro with X pipes and 3" mandrel tailpipes Torque Tech. Got his last 2 sets when I built the Camaro! Said he got an RV and was going to go traveling.

I don't think it's possible to have a favourite loud and cheap muffler. Perhaps one that's easier to remove.

Basically the same but half the weight of the Ultraflows..the Ultraflows are built heavy and last..the fiberglass packing may move around after years but they last forever.

They may be lighter, but they are also not as thick of a case so that accounts for some of the weight difference.

Im sure the ultra flows are made a little better, but they also cost more... the race pros are stainless too & will or should last a very long time as well, mine are 10+ years old & look like new with no signs of any problems, still sound like they did when new too.
