Yes, that is correct Stuart. They have 2 isolated paint booths from the main shop.

Here are a few more progress pics from Dan showing all the glass installed, the interior door/quarter panels & window cranks installed, and the side body moldings installed. The Verdoro paint sure looks pretty out in the sun!

The original shifter porch is in the Cat...wiring going in next then the dash/gauges/heating controls, and carpet.

I'll be visiting this afternoon and will see if Dan has made more progress on the Cat. He had all the interior and under dash wiring cleaned up and ready for reinstallation...not really exciting stuff and time consuming.

There was a little more progress on the Cat...the trunk lid and rear valance panel (not installed yet). Front end coming soon....

Dan and I installed the restored dash and gauges. All the controls and wiring hook-ups are next along with the padded dash top.

Looks great!

Can't wait to see it finished

It's kind of hard to show the progress because its a bunch of the little things that need to be routed, connected, and fooled with under the dash (wiring and hvac controls), blower motor, speedo cable, etc.. Dan installed the rebuilt wiper motor and re-restored the steering box. The pulleys are on the 428 now and getting close to attaching the M-21 tranny and sliding them in.

Incredible car and great work on the resto. Simply beautiful work and attention to detail.

SD455DJ 02-05-2020 01:51 PM

Thanks 1_Wild_Cat. Dan gets all the credit there in the resto department...I just get to help every once in a while and post the progress for him.

Dan started the install of the 428 HO motor this afternoon...getting fun now! The 428 HO dyno'd at 432 hp @ 5000 rpm and 502 lbft torque @ 3700 rpm with a real 068 cam and a true 10.75 to 1 compression through inferior flowing A-body RA manifolds with 2 1/4" outlets. The M-21 and shifter/linkage are going together next...

It's getting close... :) Any chance of sourcing the correct big car exhaust manifolds?

gtospieg 02-06-2020 05:57 AM

Are those F body manifolds?

SD455DJ 02-06-2020 07:55 AM

Sorry!...Failed to mention that the engine with the long branches wouldn't fit on the dyno, so Dan had to use the later type A/F-body RA manifolds. The original long branch manifolds are back on the engine that you can see in the passenger side picture.

Looks fantastic and great numbers on the 428, should be real fun w a 4spd.

mr67gp 02-07-2020 11:38 AM

Fantastic. What heads did you use? 10.75:1 and iron heads = not pump gas friendly, I would imagine?

We need to find factory 67-68 B-body 4-speed linkage rods and levers. Dan has the shifter and mounting plate, but only has the Hurst Competition Plus aftermarket rods and levers, which are different than the factory pieces. The factory rods are bent to stay lower and away from the tunnel (vs. the A-body rods that run higher). I attached the illustrations for the 68 assembly manual to show the differences.

Anyone know the whereabouts of these??? We'd buy a complete 4-speed setup if necessary.

Thanks OCMDGTO and mr67gp for the comments. The engine is running its original #16 heads (no mods) and it won't be pump gas friendly. It won't be driven that much on the street, so tanking up with 1/2 race gas from time to time won't be an issue.
