Build Sheet / Original Sale Location Question

Hey guys, i hope i put this in the correct topic. I have a question regarding my 1968 Pontiac Grand Prix. I purchased this vehicle from a family member of the supposed original owner. I have the build sheet which states it was built in Kansas City. Kansas but sold to Bridges Pontiac in Fremont, CA. (Im assuming thats the dealership that first sold the car when new). How can i find out what dealer exactly sold my car? Also, in regards to the build sheet, what else does it tell me? It came with some options, not all of them. Is it worth keeping? Its a really old, brittle piece of paper. Thanks guys. Congrats on the GP!

:)

I'm not sure if Southgate made GP's?
But I would say that KC was making GP's so it went there. (Bridges)

Pontiac also sent vehicles from different plants to CA. They tried to even out the production so one plant wouldn't be overloaded.

The PHS would have a section on state FROM and state TO (they are number/s) that would say where it came from. Not sure if the buildsheet has that on it, maybe in a piece not shown?

:)

Buy the package from Pontiac Historic Services. It is well worth it if you want the info..

As a young married sailor, I lived in an apartment across Mission Blvd from that dealer.

With Bridge's Pontiac being the 'Charged To' dealer and nothing in the 'Shipped To' I'd say Bridges was the original dealer.

Looks like 2.73 rear gear ratio.

This is correct.

Final assembly location was assigned somewhat geographically to the dealer location, but trumped by work load leveling or specific option content (like if an option was only built in one location).

Generally the 119 "shipped to" box did not refer to another dealer but instead of that dealer had an offsite storage lot (which was common with older downtown dealers who lacked storage space).

The original billed to dealer was not necessarily the dealer who sold the car new as he might have traded it to other local dealers.

Thanks, North.
I figured that was true, but was thinking of the PHS. It could have more than one PHS depending on final sale. But the buildsheet would be what it had when going off the plant floor. (if it even had a buildsheet in it)

In theory PHS records would catch a car that was sold by Pontiac more than one (company cars, publicity cars etc) but in practice PHS doesn’t always have these multiple invoices (perhaps back in the day some of the earlier invoices were purged and only the last invoice for a car was kept. But even if PHS can identify the above their records would have no information on cars once they ended up in dealer hands and moved to different dealers before being sold to an actual end buyer.

I’ve had several cars over the years where the dealer on the PHS invoice (or build sheet) would be different than the one on the original new car bill of sale that the first owner had kept.

Btw I’ve had good luck with the KC plant for buildsheets. My best record so far is four copies on my 69 Executive; one in the front fender over the wheel tub on both sides, on on top of the gas tank and one under the front seat cushion.

Interesting, shipped to Cal to be sold in Cal and the build sheet doesn't mention California emissions or AIR as that was always a cost option.

68 and 69 models had 50 state emissions. No additional equipment for California until 1970 when the fuel evaporative system was added for California cars
