New TA dash thoughts

My brother just had his dash done. He’s gonna do the door handle cups, shifter plate etc. Something different. What do you guys think about it?

Looks like quality work but a little busy with all the firebirds.

Too gaudy for me. I did my '67 GTO dash in carbon fiber with white gauge faces. Understated. Easily readable during the day and at night with the dash lights low.

It's my car. I did something a little different. Kind of tired of all stock stuff. It's far from stock anyway. I'm gonna have a bezel restored but for the time being I like it. There was too much black on my car and I felt like doing a little more than I usually do. I don't know about gaudy. Sometimes understated is just plain boring. 😉

Cool, is that a vinyl wrap?

Scott, it is hydro dipped.

If it didn't have all the birds all over it, I would like it.

I’ve been thinking of having a Firebird dash bezel hydro dipped. They have hundreds of really cool realistic looking wood varieties, CF, etc. Did you prep the piece beforehand yourself, and if so, what did that entail?

I actually like the wood grain bezels, I’m sick of looking at the flashy bezels

Initial impression: Positive :)

I disassembled the bezel by drilling out the rivets on the top plate, then you bend the tabs straight to remove the trim piece. After that you're left with the flat piece of aluminum. I just sanded the spot or two of corrosion with some 320 then hit with a fine scuff pad. The hydrographic shop did the rest. You can design anything that you want for it pretty much. I like the wood look too if it was a Formula.

Well, the dash certainly fits with the rest of the car. Not your boring stocker, for sure! What's going on under that hood???

I haven't worked on it in a couple of years really. It has a 469" with an 88mm turbo that makes 800whp on pump gas now. I have a 505" that I'm about to assemble with a Precision 91.5mm turbo. Should make 1,200-1,300whp if I want then. Here's an older picture from when I first built this one.

I had to go to a cowl hood to fit stuff. Kind of. Always missed the hood bird. And with all the piping area it gets hot under the hood. I made those hood vents to let the heat out and I thought it'd be a cool way to get a hood bird back on that not everyone has. Idk.

I would love to see the bezel when it’s all assembled. Looks cool, nice graphic… nothing wrong with changing up a little from stock!

Ignore my previous reply. After seeing the quality of craftsmanship and performance upgrades and the overall "bad ass" build..yup do want you want you have great taste this is a hell of a car! I saw the more detailed pictures on Facebook..looks awesome!

My initial impression was that it gas a lot going on. For a cruiser or nice weather daily driver that opinion stands. That said, now seeing the car, I now feel the dash is just as loud and over the top as it needs to be to keep up with the rest of the car. It works!

I wrestled with it a little bit. It is a little further than I would normally go but I do think it works too. Thanks!
