Divorced Choke Well Block Off
 

My 1971 455 has a divorced choke, which sits in a well. If removing the divorced choke is it necessary to use a block off plate for the well?

Nope. It's sealed.

If you can't put your finger down inside the cross-over, then you do not need to seal the "pocket" in the cross-over as it is already sealed.

If you CAN put your finger down inside the cross-over, then you need to seal the "HOLE" in the cross-over as it will make noise and leak exhaust fumes into the engine bay.

In case it helps anyone in the future, if you purchase a new Performer intake, it comes with the block off plate and gasket.

the block off plate on performer intakes is for the later year intakes like a 1978 that use the heated choke coil that actually inserts into a open hole on the intake & has 2 bolts, the plate & gasket on the performer block off & seal that hole. on earlier intakes like the 1970, the choke is just a well that is not open & only has 1 bolt & does not need to be sealed.

The block off plate on Perfomer intakes holds a divorced choke unit.
The divorced choke units sold by Edelbrock is for CSB or CBB making them good for Chevy divorced choke style Qjets only.
For use with 1972 and earlier Pontiac Qjets on a Performer intake a 1972 Pontiac Qjet choke unit is required.
