Had to get my pos pitted pot metal bezel rechromed. I even told the plater that I wasn't worried about the pits under where the new decal goes. He said they still had to do 4 layers of copper to try and fill in what pits were left after much grinding. I think it came out pretty good. It better had, considering it cost $150!! http://forums.performanceyears.com/g...s/icon_eek.gif This shop is good, but waaay spendy. Sorry, just had to vent.

Looks good. It may be expensive, but it's those details that will really make your car shine.
What shop did you use? I've been thinking about sending my grille surrounds and valence chrome out. From what I understand there's not a lot of places that will do pot metal. |
The shop is Tripleplate Chrome here in Spokane. He claims he gets restoration parts sent to him from all over the West coast to get replated. I believe him. He's very honest with you, will tell you up front what kind of work is involved. I'm thinking you're better off buying new moldings and surrounds unless you must have your originals done. I asked about having my original valve covers rechromed. He wanted like $175 I think. Cheaper to buy new ones. Since they don't make the shifter bezels for the auto, I was stuck getting mine redone. Email me if you need his phone #. Jeff

Thanks, I'll look him up when the time comes. The parts I'm looking to get rechromed aren't in reproduction. The valence chrome is practically worth it's weight in gold these days. It seems everyone is looking for a set.
The price you gave for the valve covers sounds about right. I checked into getting my valve covers and air cleaner lid rechromed a while back and remember the quote being about $150 each. Looks like I might have to take out a loan to rechrome my rear bumper. |
Which shifter bezel are you looking for?
I bought a his n hers repop bezel from PY a few onths ago. It was missing the mounting pins, but it worked perfectly. Chris just told me to use silicone or double difed foam tape to mount it. I used silicone and it worked perfectly. Remember when dealing with a chrome shop, they usually charge by the "batch", not the piece. I get a lot of stuff chromed for my job, and there is normally a $200.00 flat fee for one piece or a dozen (within reason size-wise). I got a quote of $450.00 to re-chrome my 68 rear bumper. I found a near mint one on Ebay for $300.00. |
That shifter bezel looks damn good - I think it was worth your money!

buzzojoe, The chrome bezels are not available in repops for the 69-72 rally shifters (ccass, are you listening?), only the 68 his n hers like you got and earlier. I also got a better bumper off of ebay for much less than mine would have cost to rechrome.
