My power windows do not work. After doing some looking I traced the Pink (Maybe red) from the switch to the dash. It ends at a plug that has three connectors on it, the pink one I followed, one pink/black line, and one larger orange/ black line. I'm not sure where this plug goes or what plugs into it. I’m guessing it's the main power to the switch for the windows. I do not have a wiring diagram for the PW. It’s not listed in my Hanes book. The plug is located right of the steering column, coming down from under the dash. You’ll have to take the panel under the column off.
Can someone with a 1979 trans am help me. I’m hoping to be able to open my windows this year when it’s hot. http://forums.performanceyears.com/g.../icon_cool.gif |

My 78 had a power window relay that mounted by the right side of the steering column behind the gauges. I found this because when it got cold my windows would not work. I would have to run the car until it warmed up then the windows worked fine. I traced the wires found the relay and replaced it and it worked fine. Good luck.

Thanks you both. i will look at the diagrams. i'm thinking i'm missing the relay switch all together. I was also missing the blinker switch, so i'm not supprised

I had the same problem on my 78 T/A, and to perform a little troubleshooting I used a meter to find which wire was hot at the switch. If there is no power on any wire then you need to keep looking for power. Once you have power then use a jumper from this hot to any of the other 4 wires -- tow wires go to each window. One os for up and the other is for down. Only hot is supplied to the motor -- it needs a grond path to work and usually the door frame/hinges supplies the return path. After all my troubleshooting, i finally cleaned the connectors on the pigtail at the windoe motors. The connectors can be disassembled for cleaning by using a very thin screwdrive (very thin) and releasing the "tang" while you pull the wire out of the connector. Be carful because the tang is very sharp and will cut when it comes out of the connector -- ask how I know. Anyways after cleaning the connectors the windoes worked OK but still slow. The next thing was to replace the power window switch. Not cheap but the windows sure work a lot better. Also, the pink wire is hot (in the 78 T/A). Also, as far as a relay goes, some models did come with a relay -- but think about it -- you would need several relays to perform both windows up or down so one relay cannot perform all the tasks. If you do find you have relays expect to find more than one to control both windows. Hope this helps.

Can you send me that as well 79TA455? My 78 has brown and blue wires from the window motors and I am missing alot of the other wiring that I'll have to rig in there somewhere...
