Will a 1000 lbs capacity stand ($39) work fine for holding my 400 or should I spend twice as much ($79) for a 2000 lbs capacity unit?

i used a 39 dollar harbor freight 1000 lb special for my 400 and didnt have any problems. cast iron heads, cast iron intake etc.

I'd spend the money on the holding bolts. Get the highest Point possible. When your looking at the top, count the number of lines from the center pointing outward. The more lines the better. I believe it's number of lines plus 2. So if you see 5 lines on the head, it's a seven bolt (which is good...) The stand is typically fine, what snaps in usually the bolt ( I've heard...) Good luck

GET a 4 wheel stand. they're more sturdy than a 3 wheel stand. A 1000 lb. stand should be fine.

I used a 750 pound one when rebuilding my 455. It sagged when I added the heads and accessories but it held up.

Hi,
I bought the 1000 lb one from Harbor Freight.
I got grade 8 bolts and double washers.
The arms that bolt to the back of the eingine may bend a little. It is hard to move around on the wheels that it came with and the tuning tube is hard to move with a fully assembled engine on it.

forget the rating, get anything with -4- wheels much more stable than the -3- wheel
