I have read and read and I get a lot of suggestions but I can not make up my mind on a new cam.

The motor is a 1968 YC 400 bored +.030 with #15 heads (stock valves but new valve job with seals and double comp springs)) all new bearings and fully balanced with original rods and new 4 relief pistons, Edlebrock performer intake and 1407 carb, new Petronix HEI ignition, Summit headers into H-pipe and full 2 1/2" exhaust, TH350 with shift kit and new 2000 stall converter, posi rear and 3.42 gears. I have new comp roller rockers and pushrods. All engine acessories and power robbing devices are still connected with power brakes also. Suspect C/R at least 10:1??

I would like a cam that will give good street performance and fuel economy, will not be taken to the strip. i just want a great feeling street machine.

I have looked at the Summit K2801 cam and the Crane powermax 272-2 cam and either sounds good. What are your suggestions??

It looks like you have a well thought-out engine combo. Your cam choices are both fairly good ones, but with 10:1 compression I would lean towards using a slightly bigger cam.

I would use the Crower 'Beast' 60916 cam (221/229,.455/.470") to help keep this high-compression engine from detonating on premium pump gas. It will work nicely with the rest of your combo and won't be too hard on fuel. I would also recommend a Q-jet carb for the best fuel economy. http://forums.performanceyears.com/g.../icon_wink.gif

I use the Crane H272-2 cam in mine. Where I think the one you are looking at is 216/216 and about .454/.454 lift the H272-2 is 216/228 and .454/.480 lift. I have been well pleased. Very responsive, with great bottom end. I have #48 heads and Ram Air III manifolds, cast iron intake and a Cliff Ruggles prepped 800 cfm qjet. I use 93 octane and have no detonation issues.

i have a similar combo n my 77 /A 30 over deck set to zero .030 talked off of head #15's cast replacement pistons with valve reliefs 1.5 harland sharps 70 Qjet and 70 cast iron intake
im running lunati 292 duration 490 lift gas mileage isnt bad and runs pretty stong up to about 5300 3.90 gears with 4sp
