ok, i'm thinking about changing the cam in my 455
right now it has a SPC3 mellings cam
224 intake 236 exhaust
.434 intake .434 exhaust with the 1.6 rockers
112* intake 119* exhaust

my engine is 11.6:1 compression 469 with ported 62 heads small tube headers, ported performer rpm intake, 750 holley with proform center.
it has gone a best 1/4 mile pass of 11.78 @ 115.8 and a best 1/8th mile pass of 7.49 @ 91mph

i'm wanting to know if anyone has an idea of how it might pick up with the new cam

ultradyne 239 intake 247 exhaust dur
.541 intake .565 exhaust lift
104* intake 116* exhaust

i'm hoping with the bigger cam I will lose some of the bottom end and pick up on the top, right now I just blast the tires off.

ok yeah TH350 3800 ATI converter and now 3.73's 28X10.5's. the passes mentioned where on 26X10's and 3.23's and I have not made any passes yet on the 3.73's

you were trapping 116 with only a .434 lift cam?? http://forums.performanceyears.com/g...s/icon_eek.gif nice...You'll definently gain more upper HP with .1" more lift.

my friend John "slow77ta" ran the cam I'm going to. with E-heads and a victor I belive he ran 7.2's 7'1's with his TANK 2nd gen. I'm hoping to get down into that range.

That's a good cam especially a good step up from your old one.I ran the 304/312 in my 400 and it ran pretty good also, still ran the power brakes too.A/C was a little rough idle though.

I got dyno2000...send me the flow chart for them heads, what size carb, what intake manifold, and i'll show you some HP numbers http://forums.performanceyears.com/g.../icon_wink.gif but I cant enter in seperate LSA's for intake and exhaust..so im gonna need a medium number to plug in

LSA on that cam is 110.

I have no idea what the heads really flow, I ported them myself, so they probaly flow less than stock http://forums.performanceyears.com/g...on_biggrin.gif

Hi, Nice combination, and you will pick up, but for a 469 and drag only, I'd swap the 750 for an 850, theres a 10th and the RPM is a great intake and what I was running, but the best I could get out of it was 115mph with the 455 and 118 with the 474 without NOS. It's holding your top end back. Try the torker II and I bet you'll see about 5 more MPH.

I have a very similar combo to yours, so I ran some dyno desktops for you out of curosity.

Run #1 is your existing combo with the melling cam
Run #2 is with the new ultradyne cam
Run #3 is with a single plane intake & 850cfm carb
along with the ultradyne cam.

I have an airflow file for unported #62's so I used that. I also gave you small tube open headers http://forums.performanceyears.com/g...on_biggrin.gif

The numbers aren't important; the trends are.

Edit: The third run on the graph says "melling". I misnamed the file; it's actually the ultradyne cam.

so it looks like it should pick up quite a bit. it just seemed like it johns car with the nitrous it didn't pick up much with the ultradyne. bit I know the parkers when they ran the SPC3 when from 12.00 to 10.60's with a 150 shot. I'll keep this cam and throw it in a daily driver 455 for my 78 lemans and use the ultradyne in my trans am.
