I've just removed the body from the frame of my 65 GTO.
So, I'm looking for advice, on bead/sand/shell blasting or chemical dipping the body and frame. Also, can anyone recommend a shop in the CT/MA/RI/NY area that can do this. Thanks Mozzy |

I did a restoration and had the body walnut shell blasted. It's really gentle on the metal, and doesn't warp any panels. A little vacuuming and you're cleaned up afterwards. I've heard too many horror stories about chemical dips, and not getting every bit of chemical out. Scares me to think of paint lifting because there was chemical left in some unseen spot, or "out gassing " of the chemical. My opinion only, walnut shells is the only way to go!!! Good luck.

dipping in my opinion is not a good idea. too many cracks, crevices that chemicals can hide.
i'd look at media blasting. i'm also going to copy this into the body shop, you'll get more info there. mike |
Mozzy, I had my frame dipped.. never again. The acid get's into tight spaces, cracks, and porous metal and leaches out over time. When the acid leaches out it leaves little white pin sized marks where it destroys the new paint. Not a big deal as I'll refinish those areas, but I shouldn't have to.
I now have the capability to do my own blasting and would go that way in the future. For the body, I think I'd pay to have it media blasted with something pretty forgiving. |
For the frame, fenderwells, rariator support and suspension, I have used

You might try these guys. I haven't used them personally but have heard good things about them.
