My wife has a Ford 9" in her bracket car with a weak posi. Considered installing a mini spool but she drives it back and forth to the track( about an hour each way). I was wondering if it would be a better idea to rebuild the factory unit and if so any pointers would be appreciated as I've never done this before. When I narrowed the rear it looked like the whole carrier would have to be torn down to even get to it.

The trac-lock won't last long if used with slicks. I would consider the detroit locker, a friend runs 11 flat with 1.50 60ft's with a 28 spline and hasn't broke it yet. It feels a bit funny when it locks or unlocks but it will always smoke both tires in the box. I've seen the rebuild kit on e-bay for about $40. You can also get them right from ford but if your dealer is as lazy as mine don't even bother. I'e got a spool in mine right now but it will be a locker by spring.

I have a Detroit Locker in my 12 bolt. It never unlocks.

I like it though.

Get the locker. Always has been the best posi unit. I have a Lenco locker in my 9" rear.
