Spoke with Don Johnston of DCI Motorsports on Sunday at Salem Dragway in Ohio at the NSCA race. Don had 2 cylinder heads with him a standard exhaust port and a raised exhaust port. I checked these out real close and the quality looked real good. Ports and short turns looked good as cast before any port work was done. He is working on some issues he feels is important that most people would let go. I know alot of you guys have been waiting on results from these for quite a while now as I have been. It's obvious that he is trying to help the Pont racer and not make a huge profit. Hopefully these will be available soon- I've got the inside scoop on a few folks that will be running them in real racing conditions so it will be nice to see the real world differences.-

Raised exhaust port like the Super Chiefs?

Mike, how did you do in the race? Are you going to make Norwalk this year?....Cliff

Well- what happened to my "gh" in sighting?? I know I typed it in- looks like I went to school with Ray and Gach-lol. Cliff - I didn't do to hot at the race- that track is slow and my 60ft times were way off- was lucky to qualify 8th out of 22. I'll definately be at Norwalk-too bad there will be no DCI race this year. Don told me he was all for it but couldn't get the promoters to do it again. I'll try to squeeze some more info outta Don about the heads- I know he checks the boards maybe he'll chime in.

The DCI raised exhaust port will be raised 1 1/2" yet, keeping the same angle. All you have to do is make sure you have room under the car to just raise the header up. The intake port will be raised 1".

Mike, I raced at QC when I lived in Pittsburgh. It is right at .2 and 2mph slower than any other track around when you do find some traction! Rumor has it that the finish line is 11' higher than the starting line! Too bad about the DCI race at Norwalk. Just got the new KRE heads installed and was going to give you some competition this year!.....Cliff

What program for Norwalk has replace that program?

Seems to me given the lay out of the Pontiac block that the DCI head is pretty much a repeat of the Superchief head. http://forums.performanceyears.com/g.../icon_cool.gif

George, the DCI exhaust port is the factory shape outside, unlike the SC, just higher up.

Are these the same two heads he's been showing off for 2 years or so now? LOL Well, product development doesnt happen overnight. Kind of reminds me of vaporware in the computer industry.
They look nice and they might even be as good as whats already available if he decides to make a few for sale.
With at least two other competion level heads coming out he'd better hurry.

Sorry about the large gap between posts. I know many of you Pontiac fanatics are anxious and patiently waiting for more information, but sometimes too much information is worse than not enough.

Anyway, about the Norwalk Street Legal race that DCI started and sponsored; Pete did not feel as if there was enough participation and because of some of the strict rules imposed, (that I wrote), it caused a few hassles and does take time to contest. Pete is very busy at the event, and if something that has little
participation takes more than it's fair share of
time, I can see his point.

Although I do understand his position, I feel that this part of the show was just coming to light. Pete and I had talked about changing some of the rules a little and allowing power adders, as well as a few other changes, so that the tech inspection did not take as long.
If you guys see the merit in this type of race, please e-mail Pete. Maybe if we all ban together and show positive support in a professional manner, Pete may reconsider allowing the race next year. If he does, we all need to support it and get as many participants as possible so that it makes economical sense for everyone involved.

As for the cylinder heads; YES, this has taken way longer than even I anticipated. And NO, this head is absolutely not a copy of the SuperChief head....not even close. This cylinder head was designed with a clean sheet of paper.

When we first designed the DCI Tiger Head, our intention was to create a head that flowed around 360 cfm out of the box and have enough port volume to feed the hungry Pontiac 455's
ferocious appetite. Well, it far exceeded our
wildest dreams. We feel that we have a very serious piece here. This head will take Pontiac racers to the next level and with your support, we will continue to develop new heads and intakes for the serious Pontiac racer.

We are very close to releasing the Tiger Head. We have had a few casting issues with gases creating air pockets and are fine tuning these issues. We do have three sets of heads now that we are beginning to test and everything looks great.

We are currently trying to get our car ready for Norwalk. We just purchased a car that is capable of handling the kind of power that the DCI Tiger Head can generate. I don't know if we will make Norwalk with the car. If the car is not ready to make a pass, we will at least try to get it there so that you can see the heads on the engine.

When we are ready to release the Tigers, it will be first come, first served. So, when we let the Tigers loose, be ready as these heads are only going to be cast in small quantities at first.
