Pretty clean car... couple of things. It's missing the fan guard and it's got a WT block with a tri-power. The WT is a 4BBL engine so it appears that they added the trips during the resto/rebuild. It's very hard to tell from photos what the condition of the car really is. Go look and drive it if you're really interested. No vin listed so I'd ask them to fax me the PHS docs and a photo of the VIN (unless you're close then go check it out yourself). The price is steep but it looks like a nice car.

Thanks they are going to send the PHS docs tomorrow.
Price is seems steep to me to, but I have never ttried to by a 65 before. Really just looking for a perfect body and 4 speed. |
That's a preety car. Always liked that Iris Mist color. Let us know what happens!
|
Yeah I am so torn on it b/c it would mean my 69 Carosul red Judge with 57k miles would have to go. Real tough one.
|
It is listed as correct 4bbl engine w/tripower added. Is your Judge restored, or original. IMHO keep the Judge Dave K.
|
that's a nice looking car but the price is too high imo for a htp.
of course for that kind of money i'd seriously consider selling mine when it's done. http://forums.performanceyears.com/g.../icon_wink.gif mike |
Thanks for the opinions.
My Judge is a 57xx mile car, restored #2 with SR block all other correct Pontiac parts. I am the third owner. I am looking to upgrade a GTO ie bigger cubes, 5-speed, 4 wheel discs etc. and am having a hard time considering doing it to my Judge. I t just seems easier to rationalize with a "regular" (if there is such a thing) GTO. I alwasy loved the 65's and just want a near perfect body and detailing etc. like my Judge is to begin with. I will of course keep all origianl parts. What is the right price for a 65 hardtop high # 2 condition ? No really concerned about 3x2, just want a real GTO in a color i like and a 4 speed to start with. |
IMHO that is too nice of a car to do the things you want to do. I would think you could find a '65 like mine... not numbers matching, but a clean 4 speed car with very little rust and a straight body for a LOT less than what they are asking. I bought mine last year in Kansas City for $15K even though the previous owner had replace the blown 389 with a 326 and the blown rearend with a Chevy posi. A car like mine is a prime candidate for those types of upgrades vs. a clean numbers matching car..... Jim

Nice looking 65. If it's any help, my son paid over 7k less for just about the same car in January. Only difference in the one you're looking at and his is a vinyl roof and a parchment interior. 65 GTO, 389 (WT), 4 speed, tripower added and 3:55's. Ours also didn't have a fan guard and it still had the original drum brakes, no power (brakes, steering). We verified everything with PHS before we went to check the car out. Looking back his was probably a mid 20k car, but due to a serious medical problem he went with it anyway. For that price range I would make sure it's an original P code (Iris Mist) car, only 2500 out of the 75,000+ 65 GTO's were that color. I've only seen two in person and two on the net. Nice looking car.

Hey Mike... getting cold up there yet? http://forums.performanceyears.com/g...icon_smile.gif
|
Yea, there's been a little bite in the air this week. Also been cloudy with rain and drizzle. Hoping it'll clear up enough that we can take the Goat out for a spin this weekend. Think it's going back up towards the 60 mark, shouldn't have to let it warm up more than ten minutes or so. http://forums.performanceyears.com/g...icon_smile.gif Takes a little while without a choke on that center carb.
My mom told me it's been up around 90 or so down there most of the week. To late in the year for it to be that warm. |
I saw two of their cars first hand, the silver 69 chevelle ss and a hurst olds. Pictures look great but the bodywork was really, really bad.
|
they just had that car from Mershons listed on ebay and it only got bid up to $25,100
here it is, http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...494921924&rd=1 maybe they will let you get it closer to $30k |
Gotta watch those guys. They are about 30 minutes from me and I stroll thru their showroom sometimes...just looking, thanks! They get interesting cars but never worth what they are asking and I've never seen a "killer car" there. Good starter cars,IMHO. I saw a '65 big-block 'Vette with the plated parts brush painted silver. Makes no sense not to do it right on a car so deserving.

Iris Mist 65 hdtp
that car is beautiful ! the best looking 65 gto s are just like that...if its the real thing and PP paint code , I'd pay the high price...but check it out first...those cars used to go for twice that amount a few years ago !
