While Replacing my front grills this winter, I want to upgrade my head lights on a 68 FB. I want to buy the brightest(but legal) and best looking set of high and low beams with limited or no modifications to the electrical system. Any advice would really be appreciated.

During the restification process on my 69 GP I replaced the bulbs with Wagner halogen bulbs. They look a lot brighter, and they are only about $2 more than the regular ones. They do not require any modifications to the electrical system either. Any other type as far as I know are not DOT approved for the street. For instance the blue glow, or the clear lense high intensity. I could be wrong, but the Wagners are the easiest route I know of and give you better light. http://forums.performanceyears.com/g.../icon_cool.gifSo bright smiley needs his shades.

I yanked my vintage lights and installed halogen as well. The only mod I had to do was to shorten the female connector because the male ends on the headlights were different length. If I want the vintage look I have the option to put the old bulbs back in because the connectors still work with them. The halogens are much brighter.

I had the same problem as Freebird with the prongs on the bulbs are a little to short and cause the connector to pop off. What I did was bend the prongs widthwise to make a slight "C" shape or slight curve shape using 2 pairs of pliers. This made the fit tight in the female socket end without modification to the socket plastic.

I did this same upgrade and now the 68 Bird has better lights than my 03 Explorer. However, I do plan on installing the neat relay from MAD, because I have it on my old truck and it does a wonderful job. The better I see, the better chance I have making it a round trip. Like the disk break upgrade. It all depends on what is best for you !! Happy Holidays Friends.
