hey i did a search but didnt really find what i was looking for. i have 15x8 snoflakes with 255-60's all around and i was wondering i want to put higher and wider"wider is more important" tires on the back and was wondering. 1st off can i even do that. 2. i dont want any rubbing problems or clearence issues so will i have any. i dont want the tires to be alot bigger just a little taller and a little wider for looks. can i do this?

275-60-15 fit fairly good, sometimes rub a little in a big bump or a realy hard turn or slanted driveway,

I have 255/60's mounted on the rear of my 78 T/A with the factory snowfakes. I have recently noticed a "little" rubbing when going around corners or over bumps or dips in the roadway. I have new shocks, but believe my springs are getting a little weak and alowing the tires to rub. Others may disagree, but I wouldn't go too much larger than a 225/60 series tire.

Ditto Skip Fix. I have 275/60's in the rear and they do rub if you hit a big enough bump in the road. I have 255/60's in front and have occassionally noticed a rub when backing up if I have the steering cranked all the way to one side or the other. I have read in similar posts that the 255/60's are the widest recommended.

DB isnt 225 thiner then 255. those links were helpfull but i also had a qustion. do they make a 265 wide tire cauz im just looking to make my tire a little wider.

Here is a 265/50x15 on an 8 x 15 Snowflake. It is a little short for my taste, and I plan to put 245/60's on the front of this car soon. The other problem is that they bulge so much that the alignment equipment would not clamp to the wheel. So they had to use the old mirror type gear. The 295' on the rear bulge even more.

I ran alot of miles and autocrosses with teh 265/50/15 on 7" Ralley IIs. Good fit. Did hit the front sway bar on lock to lock turns. Need to dimple the rear seat belt hump too.

ok i made a typo i have 236/60 tires. and also im only looking to replace the rear wheels.

Sorry, I goofed on my initial reply, which has since been corrected. I have BF Goodrich 255/60/15's on the rear of my 78 T/A and 245/60/15's on the front. As previously stated the 255's only rub once in a while. I'm fairly certain that problem will be corrected when I replace the rear springs. I really don't think you'll want to go too much wider that a 255 series tire on a 15 inch wheel, unless you plan on doing some minor work to keep a larger tire from rubbing.

Jon i used to have a 77 TA with snowflakes and it had bf goodrich 295 50 15's on the back they were tight on the rim http://forums.performanceyears.com/g...on_biggrin.gif and the car but looked bad ass from the back i also had air shocks in the back too..never rubbed!

In your opinion, would the 265/50/15 fit on an 8" Snowflake at all four corners of a stock heigth 1979 T/A without rubbing???

I currently have 255/60/15s all the way around and the heigth (27.1") is just right. I would like a little wider tire though.

back in the late 70' and on, many folks ran 265-50 fronts and 275-50 rear with BFG radials.
i currently run 275-50 BFG drag radials on the back with 245-60 on the front.
the tire diameters are virtually the same so it looks proportional front to rear.

I want to run the biggest, widest tire possible (at all 4 corners) so I can still rotate them.

Good point on your useage of proportionate sizes and I agree it does look nice.

I will put a lot of miles on this T/A and I like having the ability to rotate the tires around the car.
