Switch pitch transmissions were made until 67.400 switch pitchs' were in Buick,Olds, and Cadillac.
St-300 switch pitchs' were in A body Buick and Olds.

I dont know about that. I have a 1966 catalina and I am about 90 percent sure that it has a switch pitch 400 in it. I was told you could identify them by a imprint like a shoe in the tranny oil pan and mine definitly has it. If it isnt a switch pitch what tranny does a 66 catalina/full size have? Its definitly a 3 speed.

If your Catalina has a switch pitch in it,someone put it in.Pontiacs NEVER had them from the factory.
All 1st design 400's have the heel inprint in the pan.
The only real way to tell is to pull the trans and see if you have a short spline on the pump stator. But if you look at the electrical connector on the drivers side of the trans, see if it has 1 or 2 terminals.1 terminal means no.2 terminals means(A)yes or(B)it has a later trans with spark control. So if you have a 2 prong connector, drop the pan and see where the wire from the top terminal goes to.If it goes to a switch on the valve body,it has spark control. If it dissapears up into the pump, you have switch pitch.
