Ok. I have the gastank off. To remove the sending unit do I tap it out? Or is there some twist trick? What tool do I use? http://forums.performanceyears.com/g...n_confused.gif I cant remember. Anyone know where to get replacement padding that goes on top of the tank between it and the trunk?

Thanks

should be a notched lock ring , put a screwdriver against the tab and tap it until it spins and unlocks

Thanks Steve. I just ordered it. When I get home I will attempt to tap out the sending unit.
Does PY sell replacement socks or is that something any auto part store carries?

lampoon 07-19-2003 06:03 PM

I cant find a replacement sock anywhere. I will add an inline filter before the pump but I'd like the sock as well. Ive read several; posts about AC Delco socks. The parts places around me say "discontinued" when I inquire. Ideas?

PY and Ames both carry replacement A/C Delco socks and pre-assembled socks on their complete sending units. For '66 the stock pickup tube is 5/16" - the replacement is 3/8" but it works fine. There is some difference in the sending units between A/C and non-A/C cars so make sure you get the correct one for your application.

I still cant find the replacement socks. It wont come up under any searches. Do you have a PY part number??? http://forums.performanceyears.com/g...icon_smile.gif

Tim....how did the 3/8" fit on the 5/16"?
Does it cinch down with a metal wire or something?

don't do a search, just open the paper catalog and order it. It is still available at the auto stores and at the ford dealers as well.
