Just bought a 1975 Pontiac Firebird (formula 350) not original engine, it has a 400 (big block?) ID #SR88576 - tried Wallace Racing and no match. Heads are 13, which are from a 1970 300+ HP rated engine. Would like to know what I
'm working with and if it's worth the rebuild.

SR blocks are service replacement blocks. Look for the casting number or stamping at the back of the passenger side and post that number.

Went and had a closer look, numbers are there and they read 97999 14. No match at Wallace, and what does service replacement mean? Factory replacement?

Try the number in the misc. category and leave the space out - 9799914

It'll be a 1970 400 block.

The SR is a replacement block from the factory.
