I can`t get my temp gauge to work on a 70 GTO. I tested the wire from the sending unit end to see if it registered current or resistence with the ignition turned on. Nothing showed. Should it?

Pull the wire from the sending unit and turn the ignition key to the run position, note gauge reading. Next, ground the sending unit wire to the engine and note the gauge reading. If nothing changes, look at the gauges and/or wiring to the sending unit.
