Dan: Never heard of a '74 with a 455. To my knowledge '73 was the last year a GTO was offered with a 455. I believe Pontiac only made about 7000 or so 74s all with a 200hp 350.

Story is that it was made put together for 3 GM VP's only

don't know of any 455's installed from the factory in a 74 GTO. Maybe dealer installed, but I doubt that one also.

Well, now that's interesting and I will tell you why. 1st it doesn't mention a 455 or Pontiac engine. With that being said, there is a locak guy with a 74 GTO that has a Chevy 350 in it. He claims it came that way from the factory. I questioned him on it, and he insisted that the Chevy engine was original, and that he too thought it was unusual and claims to have called Pontiac and they confirmed that it came with the 350 chevy engine. I didn't push the issue to much with him. But I suggested he contact PHS to see if it indeed came that way. I don't believe myself. I haven't talk to him in several months. But here is the pic of the car.

There is a recent thread in the Ventura topic list that addresses this question. A Ventura, GTO optioned or not, being built and sold to the public with any engine larger than a 350 4bbl is pure urban legend! Such a car being built for engineering or VIP usage is conceivable...
A 350 Chevy? That is a much more plausable scenario since Novas were being built in the same plant, on the same line. All of the parts would have been right at hand. Still, with an unapproved concoction like that, I'd need to see some sort of PMD paperwork to be convinced of its pedigree. Nick, did you happen to check the V.I.N. to determine the engine code? I'll bet it has a "B" regardless of the engine currently bolted between the fenders.
