I've seen Ames sell the same front 1.25 bar for 70-81 F body and 64-72 A body. Has anyone put this bar on a 69? Why not - what's the reason if not?
thanks

The 69 sway bar for a bird actually goes through the frame. The Later bird and chevelle, doesnt have the right curves and clearance to go through. You can but a 13/16 for the early bird. They are available for camaro's as the z-28 or COPO sway bar, and alot of suppliers have them. Thats the biggest I know of.

NOOOOO! it's not a freakin' Chevelle!

the car is not in front of me to look but what you explain makes sense. I'll look into the bar you mentioned, thanks!

Keep in mind the length of the swinging part of the swaybar. It's about a foot on A-bodies (which BTW also fit the 70-81 Firebird), but only about six inches on the 67-69 F-body and 68-74 Nova.

That means that a 1-1/4" with a 12" swing has a similar tension as a 1" bar with a 6" swing.

Plus, there are bigger bars if you really want them. I believe there's a 1-1/8" for the first-gen, but one inch is usually the largest you'll need.

I had a set of Herb Adams VSE bars on my 69 Firebird. One inch front and rear, with block mount on the control arm and heimjoint links. I think Adams' bars were actually made by Moroso. (I also had Adams' steel/nylon control arm bushings, rather than those crappy polyurethane.)

Addco also made a one-inch bar for a traditional loop-end for conventional links.

I'm sure there are others, check with Global West.

I ordered my front bar 1 1/8" from Summit a couple of weeks ago on sale. It's made by Addco. Fits real nice.

thanks for the tips on where to get the larger bar - I'm on it!
Anyone want a brand new 1.25 Ames front kit for A bodies? Trade?
