I was wondering about the dash speaker in my 79 TA. I just removed it and it needs to be replaced. I was wondering if I should get the same speaker size? I want a nice sounding radio and I have heard of guys replacing the one speaker with two smaller speakers with a special plate that bolts everything right in. Anyone know about this?

Hi Rich, I replaced my speaker with a Dual Kenwood setup that I got from Classic Industries. I can't tell you how it sounds since my car is still in pieces, although it seems like it will sound better than the beat up stock one I had in there. It wasnt too bad installing, but then again, I had all of the duct work out. Hope this helps. -Ron

I also repalced mine with the Kenwoods Sounds good. I did not want to do any cutting and used the mesh package tray to hide my 2 rear speakers. Installed a 6 disk changer in place of the old 8 track fit real well.

I made my own dual speaker bracket to fit where the old one did. Worked out great. The cool thing is, you'll never know it was swapped out except for the sound. I used the cloth mesh material from an old set of house speaker covers to hide the speakers. Looks just like the original from the top, even though no one will ever notice.

I plan to use two speakers as well. Will two 4 inch speakers fit.. or do I have to go with 3.5s?

Thanks!

I don't think the dual 3 1/2" speakers will sound a whole lot better than a single larger one, but the nice thing is you will hear everything that was meant to be heard, just not in true stereo. If you keep a single, you would have to hook up just the left or the right, so the dual is a great way to go & keep it looking factory, & hear everything.
