I wonder if anyone knows the correct underhood decal placement for a '69 GTO Conv. w/AC, 400, YS car? I am in the process of replacing underhood decals and I want to get it right on the first go round. I have a book that shows a few engine pics. but is not very detailed as to decal placement.

Thanks for the info, and am I correct that there are no decals on the air cleaner assembly? Also does anyone know if anywhere on the car there should be a GM "mark of excellence" decal or metal tag about the size of a quarter but square?

If the air cleaner hasn't been painted since new, there should be no decal on it. Here's a pic of my original air cleaner.

The info that's on the front of the air cleaner, just behind the thermostat housing, is painted on. I think they make a repro decal for this info if the air cleaner has been repainted.

I've seen redone air cleaners with the 'Keep your GM car all GM' decal. I know that this decal wasn't original to '68s, not sure if it was original on '69s.

The GM 'Mark of Excellence' decal goes on the driver's door, on the jamb face, just above and approximately centered in the area over the door latch mechanism. At least this is where I put mine.

I don't believe there should be an engine tune up decal on the 69 car. Diagram looks more like a 68 version to me.

I checked PY's catalog and it shows a tune-up (also called 'emissions') decal for '69.

The front end stuff is the same for '68-'69. The diagram does show, however, the front filler for cars equipped with the non-endura bumper. http://forums.performanceyears.com/g.../icon_wink.gif

I dont believe the 69 GTO had an emissions decal. I have had 6 unrestored 69's from 350-370HP and none had decals. Could be plant specific though. I will go with this until proven otherwise. Jim

What does the restoration guide say about it? I don't have one. Why would PY offer one if it isn't really correct to have one?? I think if nothing else it will be useful on how to set the engine functions such as timing and idle speed etc.. Thanks, Don

I don't know what the resto guide sez, but I'd guess that that tune-up info would have to be there. I have never seen a car (any kind of car) that didn't have that data on a decal either on the core support or on the bottom edge of the hood.

I do know that those decals weren't very durable and were easy to cover with paint if the car had been detailed or repainted at some time in it's life.

The one on my '68, as a matter of fact, had been covered with paint. I just put the new one over the top of the old one.

I think the GM mark of excellence square decal goes on the passenger side. I have mine on the driver side of my 69 Conv. and was marked down at a concours show for having it on the wrong side. My car had 72,000 original miles when I bought it and had no emissions stickers, just an air cleaner decal.

None on '69 GTOs....

Those blue GM decals in the door jam were a 67 thing.

As for the tune up stickers most 69`s never had one. I`ve owned so many 69`s over 25 years (and most of them virgins) it is clear that for some reason 69`s don`t seem to have them. That being said I have one 69 GTO that shows signs of having had a sticker (sticky area of the right size and location)

That GM door sticker does not go on the car! As stated above. Interesting about the emisions decal... I'll do some checking tomorrow.
