I have a 76 TA w/ a 400 engine. The secondaries are not opening. It is a vaccuum sec. carb. What do I check? Is adjusting the tension on the upper butterfly the way to go?

BB in the vacuum line?

I had this happen to me on a Chevy. The previous owner didn't want his kids in the rear two barrels. http://forums.performanceyears.com/g...n_rolleyes.gif

Did you know the secondaries will not open unless there is a load on the motor? You can sit there and rev it till it comes apart and never open them.

thanks . I was revving the engine in park. I'll have to take the shaker off and go for a ride

they should open even when in park.
if its a q-jet there is a piece of linkage on the pass side of the carb that blocks the secondaries from opening. its supposed to keep'em shut til the car warms up but is notorious for getting in the way anytime. i wire tied mine outta the way.
its a lil flipper thing that blocks a "t-bar" that sticks out of the bottom butterfly shaft.
look on the pass side, bott shaft of secondaries. see a t-bar, on the front side is a flipper mechanism about 3/4" long. tie it outta the way.

but you CAN get the secondaries to open by revving it when standing still.
