Hi guys, I have a stock 403 at the moment in my 79 Ta. I was planning on adding 3a heads with a big block valve job or #6 heads with .15 shave and 3 angle valve job. Correct me if I am wrong but the stock rocker ratio is 1.5 right? What would be the advantage to getting a 1.6 or 1.65? As I see it keeps the valves open longer and more depending on cam? (sorry still learning).

I may or may not add a cam later on. If I do it will be very mild, my target Hp is about 300 as this is my daily driver/local show car for the moment.

#4,#5,#6,#7 or 7a would be the heads to use. The ports in the 3A's are hardly worth the swap. If you mill anything you will likely need adjustable valvetrain. Otherwise, you will preload the lifer too much and wipe out your cam. Stock oldsmobiles are non-adjustable. The easiest set up is the mondello kit. It is basically the compcams setup with the correct pushrods.

The stock cam is not going to get you too far. It is very mild and not capable of making 300HP. Might suggest a Lunati cam. The cam designer at Lunati is formerly from Ultradyne. He can make you want ever you want.......

Comp supplies a very nice "kit" to install Magnum roller-tips in the Olds. The kit includes studs, guide plates, rockers and pushrods. Well designed. They have them for both tall deck (455 Olds) and short deck (403 is short deck, like 350 Olds).
