I have a 66 pontiac intake. When I rebuilt my motor I put 400 heads off of a 72 Pontiac (7J2 heads). I was wondering if the intake would work on this motor. The intake gaskets that came with the head set wont but I cant tell if the intake will not work also.

Yes, it will work. I am using a 66 tripower manifold with 71 400 heads (#96).

No,no,no!!!!! The manifold will not work unless you Mickey Mouse The exhaust crossover. You are only asking for leaks later if you do. Get a 1972 manifold (later ones will fit also but have EGR ) or an after market one.

My bad, Bob is right, I forgot about the exhaust crossover.

The reason you guys get away using those manifolds is because the design changed in 1972 and he is using 1972 heads.

Pittsburgh 64, keep in mind that only the '64 and earlier crossover ports are round. A freeze plug won't work on the rectangular openings on '65 and later heads.

I use Felpro Performance intake gaskets (#1233) on both my cars to run '72-up heads with early manifolds. No problems ever. But '72 is the unique manifold that fits late heads correctly, and does not have an EGR setup.
