I have a '66 GTO with a 389 engine that I recently bought. This is a 4bbl w/o air. I am wondering if anyone can tell me the exact length of the dipstick for this engine? I have two, one is too long and the other too short. I just changed oil/filter and after filling according to the book, neither show the correct amount.

My GTO also has a 2 speed powerglide transmission and after climbing under today I saw that the sending unit wire is disconnected and placed out of the way. My question is what is the sending unit for? I have no "idiot" lights for the transmission. Is this for proper shifting?

Thanks !

My original 66 non-ac dipstick is 17 1/2 " long from tip to inside top of the cap.

The terminal on the trans is the downshift soenoid and is wired to the switch that mounts on the driver's side of the firewall operating off the throttle pedal.

"My GTO also has a 2 speed powerglide transmission" Piontiac didn't havwe a powerglide until sometime in the 70s. What you have is a Super Turbine 300. You'll need to know that if you ever have to buy parts for it.
