I need help.The keys to my 65 gto have been lost in the process of restoring my house,specifically the kitchen.My question is ,if I buy PY key sets and locks,cylanders,how difficult is it to install these and do I need special tools?Obviously,this has never happened to me before and,trust me,they are lost!!All the best bigpop

It is VERY easy to do. I would recommend it anyway, that way you have a matched set.

If a mechanical retard like me can do it, anyone can.

Bigpop, you could also pop out one of the locks and carry it down to a locksmith and get a new key made for just a few bucks. Sorry Chris dont mean to cost you a sell

If i do believe so you can not get you ignition switch out without the key that fits it, so buying a new set of keys and tumblers does not help much.I think the ignition switch must be turned into accesory position with the key then a paperclip shoved in the little hole to remove them. sometimes locksmiths have rings of old keys that they might lend you to try and see if one will work or like the txbobcat said remove a lock from one of the doors and go from there.

Do you have a PHS copy of your invoice? Is the ignition and trunk key numbers on it? If so, bring that number to your locksmith and have one cut.

I tried to have keys cut from the PHC Doc numbers, but they didn't work. Maybe the locks were changes before, don't know. The ignition however is so worn, you can pull the key out while the car is running. It is not more than a stick now, that's why I can't believe it was ever changed. Takes a long time to rub down a key to where there is no ridges anymore. Had the keys cut from the numbers twice and still did not work, looks like I need a new set for the whole car. :rolleyes:
