Just picked up 66 GTO, originally with Factory Air. Previous owner(?) ripped out majority of the system. Any suggestions as to locating specs for system and parts. Has anyone rebuilt entire system before? Am i in for a major headache? Cost?

hi, i don't have a performance years catalog yet. (it's in the mail) but i did see a majority of the stuff in a competitors catalog. however, if someone lets you in on a less expensive source would you let us all know. driving would be a lot more enjoyable with air in my 67. thanks, rob

New parts available thru various mail order catalogs are going to contain parts that are only "similar" to original. Some parts are just not available. It would be great if you could find a doner 66-67 Tempest or LeMans that you can both see how everything goes together in addition to getting the parts.

You may want to look into a Vintage Air system. Their setup is fairly simple to install and is supposed to cool better than factory. Plus compressor is smaller, doesn't draw as much hp to run. I think their setup is around $1000.

chris is correct. almost EVERY piece in the heating system is different on an A/C car. hopefully you have an A/C cowl and dash! there are a lot of parts that will individually add up to a lot of $. much better to find a complete system. they are out there. expect to pay $250-350 for a 'complete ' system. and then expect to have some parts missing that you have to find. and some parts that need to be rebuilt or replaced such as compressor, POA valve, condensor, evaporator, heater core, drier, etc. then bolt it together and charge it with 4-5 # of R-12 at $30 plus per #. and then find leaks and replace those components. recharge again and VOILA!!! for about a grand you can have A/C. but it's worth it compared to installing an aftermarket system that looks totally foreign on your A-body. good luck.
