This is my first postCan someone tell me the correct location for chrome exhaust tips for a 67 automatic H.O. GTO as they would be installed by the factory. Are they straight out the back or do they bend downward and slightly outword? I thought I came accross something in writting indication the tips for an Automatic were slightly downward and outword but I can't locate it.

All that I have ever seen, head straight out.
Right up against bumper. Can't say if Auto vs Manual would be different.

This question has been a source of controversy for many years.

I have never seen a set of NOS extensions, but I've been told that they came with an adapter pipe so that you would cut your stock pipes, install the adapter pipe then the extension.

Somewhere, maybe in the '67 accessory brochure, there is a picture of them turning slightly downward and outward similar to the way the stock pipes exit.

The consensus I've heard is that straight out the back is not correct. However, that seems to be the way many people install them.

I hope I have confused everyone, including myself.

PHS shows extensions for my car, but they were long gone before I got it. http://forums.performanceyears.com/g...icon_frown.gif

The 67 assembly manual shows the location from the factory. The tailpipes are cut back 3" from the end, and the extensions installed with a clamp. They are angled out from the car centerline and downward. Ultimately its up to preference, as many dealers installed the tips straight out.

my stock tips were angled down and located behind the back bumper somewhat. I thought the ones that go straight back are the factory sport tips option?

Thanks for the input. On Monday the muffler shop is completing the install of new pipes and mufflers on my GTO. I was using the weekend to research were the chrome tips should be located. It does sound like they should be turned downward and outward. I can't get my hands on a assembly manual before monday. Does anyone have a copy they could either e-mail me or fax? I went through everything I have, and out of all the boos & brochures I have only the GTO Recognition Guide had any detailed info.
