I've got a 3.23 carrier that I want to put a 3.55 gear on (10 bolt posi BOP in 69 GTO). What thickness of spacer do you think I need?
Thanks in Advance! -Bill |

After ripping all the ring gear bolts out of my 64 Impala in high school that had a spacer, I've very leary of them.

.255 to .265. We have them instock. I've used them with no problems. Just use the longer bolts & loctite.

I've also used a ring gear spacer with success.
I made it a point to check and re-torque the bolts periodically, but never found any of them loose. |
To add to above discussion, if rear is an 8.5 corporate 10 bolt, need to buy a Mr Gasket pkg of hardened SBC head bolt washers (about $8.00).
As the 8.5 ring gear bolts are lh thread, regular lockwashers will not work, they'll spread when you torque 'em. Unfortunately, the bolts that come with the MrGasket & Summit brand 8.5 ring gear spacers are too long, & without the hardened washers the last 2-3 threads on the new ring gear bolts will strip. As Scott mentioned, need to use blue loctite, too. '70-72 8.2 Pontiac Safe-t-track carriers also use lh thread bolts & may need the hardened washers if ring gear spacer is used(?). Have not used a ring gear spacer with one of these, usually too much demand with 3.23's. |
One of my friends that does use them sets them up with Loctite also between the spacer on both sides.

Fastback, the carriers Randy's is selling for $109 are 8.5 singletrack carriers, not bare posi carriers.
About the only singletrack carriers I keep on the shelf anymore are the low ratio & mid ratio 8.2 BOP's. End up chunking the 8.5 pegleggers. |
