I have a 66 LeMans with the 326. What can a guy on a budget do to make this a little meaner?

Hi Gil, Welcome to PY. You can start by putting on a set of headers with a 21/2" dual exhaust system. You can also put on a 600 cfm carb, anything bigger will be a waste. With a 326 your heads are the weak spot. They don't flow worth a damn. If you really want to make a sleeper try finding a 400 or a 455 to slide in between the frame rails. The bigger cube engines have so much more snot in their stock set-up then a warmed over 326.

Errors have been made. Others will be blamed.

Thanks Bud. May come back for more questions this fall when it's time to drop it in. I'll go shopping for now and try to find one.

Remember too Gil that if you do buy any aftermarket parts for your 326 most of these parts will bolt onto a bigger Pontiac engine. So some good ad-ons now wouldn't be a waste of money. I would also start with headers, 2.5" dual exhaust and an alum. dual plane intake, especially if you don't already have a 4-barrel carb.
