I know that everyone is anxious and curious about the dyno testing of the Tomahawk intake from Pacific Performance Racing. Believe me when I say this, “Nobody is more anxious about this testing than Ken and I.” Our patience is being strained was well.

Many of you have voiced antagonism because it has taken so long...not just the testing but bringing this intake to market. Product development is a long time coming. Yes, we hung it out, looking for interest. If there were no hype, there would be no product. At least we have a product in our hands that we can touch and test. How many products have never made it that far? We thank all of you for your encouraging comments and interest.

Well, off my soap box...
Testing is now complete (3/24/05). We have tested (on the PPR street/strip mule) the Weiand, Performer, Torker II, HSD, and Performer RPM but not the Tomahawk. The dyno’s computer “crashed and burned” just prior to our first pull on the Tomahawk. A new computer has been installed and we were able to complete our testing.

The result of our completed testing is listed in the attached graphic.

With the exception of the HSD (that had 8 hrs of port work), these intakes are straight out of the box. They all lined up with the ports on the heads with no shrouding or interference. The graphic also lists the engines specs.

To a certain extent, the engine specs are irrelevant. What is relevant is the variance between tested manifolds. Our initial settings, of total timing (30 degrees) and jetting (76/80) where optimized settings on an earlier test utilizing a Performer RPM. The Tomahawk liked a little more timing (32 degrees) and so we also tested the RPM at that level. Peak Hp and Tq were not as good with this timing change on the RPM.

This engine was built for use in Ken’s boy racer ’69 Firebird streetcar and will be installed (with a Tomahawk) after all testing is complete.

Thank you for the information. Sorry to hear about your dyno 'blues'.

I've been there, too. It's a real downer.

Your baseline engine is real similar to mine with yours having a little more intake duration and a little less LSA. My carb is a Q-Jet (Cliff). I have not tried out the Tri-Ys (tunnelport), yet. But other dyno testing on other engines of similar configurations have been good.

Look forward (as do others - as well as yourselves, to be sure) to what your new intake does with this engine combo. Do you have any engine idle vacuum results to share with the engine and the different intakes tested?

What carb did ya'll test with? The 76/80 jetting looks suspiciously like what I found worked best with my holley 750 DP.

I'd like to know what carb also, and if a power valve is used on the primary side.

The carb is an out of the box Holley 870 Street Avenger. And yes it has a power valve.

Was the HSD ported or stock?

Dave:if you want a Torker1 for the test, have 1 as you know , to test it .

Now I'm not a dyno expert but will the tests be redone when the new computer program is working. Doesn't seem like a true comparsion testing all intakes on the older computer. Than the the Tomahawk by itself on the new system? Again I'm no expert just asking.

It would be interesting to see a comparison with a stock manifold as a baseline. probably be hard to mount an Avenger carb on it though. just wondering

PPR is at/near sea level and the dyno is corrected daily based on a weather station affixed to the dyno cell.

The Performer is very close to a stock intake in design...so that is as close a comparison as you will get.

come on you guys.... I have seen Ken's dyno setup and it aint no toy! Ken & Dave arent guessing at this stuff. Whatever you hear from these two guys is the word. NO BS!
now, I wish Ace would quit screwing around with this stupid manifold and get busy on my shortblock.

It needs to be further stated...these intakes, as is the Tomahawk, are directly out of the box.

This is important to state because you do not have to do a bunch of port work to match up to your heads.

WELL IF THAT TORKER 2 WAS PORT MATCHED LIKE THE HSD IT WOULD BE RIGHT AROUND THE SAME NUMBER'S PROBABLY , VERY INTERESTED TO SEE HOW THE NEW INTAKE DOES IF IT BEATS OUT THE RPM I WILL BE GETTING ONE TO TRY ON THE GRAND PRIX
