I also am considering dying some seat belts and I am just wondering what the best method would be? I wouldn't think it would make the belts stiff if you used the proper media. Clothing doesn't get stiff.

Anyone ever dyed seat belts before and can help out?

I dyed my rear belts from black to black (they were faded).

Got a pot of boiling water going, dumped in the Rit, and followed directions. Hung the belts in the pot with a coat hanger so the buckles wouldn't get immersed.

Be sure to rinse them real thoroughly, otherwise the dye will run if they get wet again (or over a woman's dress!).

I could see dyeing from a lighter color to a darker color, but I don't know how dyeing from a darker to a lighter would work out.

what is rit?

Rit is the brand name of the dye. Wal-Mart has it.
