Went to cecil county yesterday afternoon. Drove my STREET CAR to the track and ran 4 times.
1st run: 10.509 @ 128.62 The new converter didnt like leaving at 1,500 RPM. 1.529 sixty foot. Pulled 103.37 at half track. 2nd run: 10478 @ 128.65 Left at 2000 rpm and liked it better and went 1.51 sixty foot. 3rd run:10.59 @ 128.87 Was lean, jetted up. Left at 2400 spun bad went towards wall, lifted and still went more MPH. 4th run:10.47 @ 129.21. Dropped timing down 2 degrees to 33 total and picked up MPH. Sixty foot was still 1.52. Should be a little better , but not complaining at all. I was hoping for a 10.50 after it was tuned in completely and on a nice cool night. So starting out with that I was extremely happy. What really impressed me was from half track on the thing pulled like a freight train, and I didnt think that RPM intake would do that. Im glad i stuck with the RPM intake and not changed to a single plane. Thats a pretty damn good dual plane intake. Maybe I will try a warrior before winter but Im happy with whats on it. After the second run at the end of the track I pulled a plug and put another one in so i could go back to the pits to check the one i pulled out and the car wouldnt start. Got towed back. No spark. Damn MSD crapped out on me. Went home and pulled one of my bother in laws camaro thats in my garage. Hooked his up and fired right up. Crazy how stuff like that happens. Now some more tuning and then the 150 shot and see what happens. Should be in the 9's now. 68 Firebird 468 #16 D-Ports w RPM intake |

I currently turn 12.5 hope to hit 11's with 150 shot of Nitrous when it's finally hooked up and tested. |
Bad Bird,
It would be nice if you could tell us a little about your combo. First off your race weight, your carb, compression, cam type and specs, headers, rear end ratio, tire size. Please? Tim C 65 LeMans 11.06@121 |

Agreed, the RPM is a good intake. Your not giving up a ton of hp over a Victor.
With my old 462ci 12.5cr D-port motor and a 264/271 solid roller it made 617tq at 4400 & 612hp at 6100. That's with the plenium divider cut down 1" and a 1" spacer installed. The carb was a worked Holley 750 (rated at 926cfm). With the Victor intake and a 1" spacer the same combo made 632tq at 4600 & 635hp at 6300. These were back-to-back runs on the same dyno. 'Damn right it's a street car' |
That sounds like one healthy combo you got there. I would be interested to hear more about your trans and convertor, and what it is really like to drive on the street! 12 to 1 static compression??? What fuel do you use?

Hot Damn!
If my 68 was that wicked, I would be in jail for certain- cops just love my car, ya know. |
Badbird68; nice work!
Excellent choice in gears and tire. I hope to do that performance with a blower H.I. Stud "11.00/123MPH/1.50 60foot/29.5"/4.10:1/10"/472 #48/Flat HYD/DualQuad/Wenzler/3250Lbs 12.00/112MPH/1.61 60foot/26"/3.31:1/10"/472 #48/FlatHYD/Q-Jet/Torker/3650Lbs" |
Badbird,
Thanks for sending the specs. Very nice machine, is that a comp cam? Tim C 65 LeMans 11.06@121 |
Wow, nice numbers. A full street legal car, with roll cage I assume.
How did you get the car to weigh 3420 lbs with you in it?? http://www.kingofgtos.com/index.htm |
thanks everyone.
Goatrider, it really drives great. The cam doesnt sound and act as ignorant as you would think. I mean it sounds good but not really really nasty. I usually run 112 torqo or a mix of both 112 and pump gas (94 sunoco). Sometimes mix 5 gallons of 116 and 5 gallons of 94. Gonzo, when I redid the car whatever didnt need to be there isnt. Just did whatever i could to save weight. Some secrects are left untold though.LOL Steve, what h.p do you think my combo has. Probably close to what yours was. 68 Firebird 468 #16 D-Ports w RPM intake Street Car 10.47 @ 129.21 150 shot soon |
My guess is about 590 HP
anyway, nice job......email me with weight details..............sssshhhh! http://www.kingofgtos.com/index.htm |
Badbird- FWIW, the engine dyno we used back then was known to be generous.
Interesting though, if I remember correctly the Performance Trends Engine Analyzer program suggests it made more than what the dyno said. (peak numbers are nice but I'm just as interested where the torque and power curve are when we dyno a motor) [This message was edited by Steve Coombes on October 08, 2002 at 10:16 AM.] |
Yeah, your right. Peak h.p and torque arent always directly related to better e.t's. I had a friend of mine pick up 35 rear wheel horsepower but lost e.t at the track. His converter had alot to do with that.
