Help!
I haven't ran my 1979 403 Olds powered Trans Am for about 2 years now, and I want to get it running again.
I plan on pulling the plugs, shooting WD-40 into the cylinders, and pulling the distributor and using a oil pump primer rod to send oil throughout the engine.
My problem is I can't find an oil priming rod for an Olds 403.
Would a Pontiac one work? I can borrow a friend's if it does.
Anything else I need to know/do?

Weld a 5/16" socket to a rod and put in a drill chuck. Make sure you weld it cause if it falls off.................

I know with Chevrolet, if you take the dist housing out, you never get oil to one side of the engine. I forget if olds is the same way. But if you don't have an oil priming tool, usually cranking the motor with a battery charger on and off for a couple of minutes will get oil to most of the engine and valve train. And if it doesn't, it'll get there quick once the engine starts.

You can use a socket on the end of the extension approach...it works fine for the Olds 403. Do not crank the motor over with the starter unless you plan on replacing your cam anyway...chances are the lifters have bled down and there is no cushion of oil between the lobes and the cam...if its dry in there, you'll flatlobe the cam. The extension will be good. Good luck!!

Is the Olds engine like the Pontiac engine. Do I go counter-clockwise to spin the oil pump?
Oh ya, so aPontiac oil priming rod won't work for the Olds engine? I can borrow a Pontiac rod.

I do know that the Olds distributor turns opposite of that of a Chevrolet. When you put the plug wires on, you wire the plugs in the firing order (18436572) counterclockwise.

I *THINK* you spin the drill in reverse.

Someone please clarify as I'm about to do this same thing to a '67 Olds 425.

Olds is counter clock wise

ANy luck getting it to fire over>?
