I took my 65 out for the first time in 25 years this weekend and the speedometer works fine up to about 20 mph. Then it goes all over the place clockwise to zero back to 20up to 80 back to 40 etc.. Any ideas... speedometer, cable, drive gear? Thanks Mike

inspect the cable housing first. make sure that it's not twisted or burnt by the exhaust, if looks ok pull the cable out of the housing and lube it up with a good lubricant. i use a mixture of a penray product called inner slide lube and lubriplate. after sitting that long you'll want to clean the cable off before lubing, penetrating oil and a rag will work well for this. reinstall the cable into the housing and remove the excess from the end that attaches to the head. the lube can work it's way into the speedo face and stain the lettering. if you decide to install a new cable asm you'll need to lube it first also. mike

Most likely the bushing in the speedo is dried out, it will need replaced, if you keep driving with it like it is the speedo pointer will break off soon. I have a bunch of them like that I bought missing the pointers and that's why. After 35 years all the factory "lube" dries all away, you need to replace the bushing as there is no way to re-lube it.
It's a job for a good speedo shop, after you tear apart the frame you would need to re-calibrate your speedo.
