I was reassembling the console on my '67 lemans last night and found that the chrome lid does not fit well on the base. In fact, when you lay the lid (the part with the release button in it) on a flat surface, the lid has quite a bow to it....possibly as much as 3/16 inch the long way. I can't imagine this is normal, but the lid is one piece cast pot metal and isn't likely warped.....or is it? I had a thought of having my fat neighbor sit on it, but it will take a six pack of cheap beer to get him back home again, so am waiting to hear from 'y all.

I have a 67 GTO and the console lid also is slightly bowed. I adjusted the hingle until the lock secured with ease. Seems to work well. I did try to bend the lid straight but stopped that attempt quickly and decided to be happy with what I have. EJS67

Actually they do have some bow in them originally, so it may just be the 1st time you've noticed it? irgoatmike

Both lids that I have are slightly bowed.

i hear that they bow really bad if you have them rechromed

not the rechroming, but the polishing afterward to make them shine...bows them

I've got a few originals around that have not been replated, and they are bowed.

I think they are bowed so that you have a slight gap at the front so when you push the button to open, you have a little gap to grab to open the door.

The spring at the hinge helps, but not enough.

I think the bows are from all of the girlfriends Backsides over the years

I've encountered the same problem with bowed lids. I sucessfully straightened them using some wooden blocks and carefully applied hand pressure. Works like a charm. Just take is easy so you don't crack or break this cast metal.
