Ccass,
Thanks for the update, as you can imagine more then a few people are waiting for this hood.
Bad news about the "as is" though.
Sort of gives you respect for those '60's guys at Pontiac

Andre 11-13-2001 12:21 PM

This surprises me a little bit, as the 67-9 Firebird 400 hood is a beautiful piece, that didn't seem to have anywhere near the problems as the GTO hood is.

I'm very curious to know how poor a fit this hood is. Does Goodmark have a Jig set up to test the hood? In my experience, the fit of original hoods varies from car to car depending on how the rad support, and fenders were previously fitted, and they all have to be adjusted in concert to get good lines.

Ccass 01-17-2002 01:02 PM

This hood project has been scrapped by Goodmark. BEWARE! There is a possibility that the
UNAPPROVED hood may be being distributed thru other sources. Goodmark insists that it doesn't fit!

buzzojoe 01-20-2002 10:28 AM

I have tried to get an answer from some of your competitors about the hoods that they are selling, but never get a reply.
Of course the hoods are listed as non-returnable.
I have been holding out for someone to come up with a good Repro, but it looks like I better grab one of the $250.00 rusty ones on Ebay.
My existing one has too many extra ventilation holes in it to salvage.
I guess that I could put about 6 hood tachs on it to cover the big rust holes...

Or turn a few the other way for scoops!

TinInjun 01-20-2002 12:11 PM

Oh Boy, looks like my spare hood just went up in price, hehe

Ccass 01-21-2002 01:28 PM

I guess this topic really stirred things up. I now have info from a reliable source that the hood, while imperfect, is not that bad at all. We are going to get one in and test it on my 68. So if you were contemplating a purchase or sale of a hood, adjust accordingly. Stay tuned.

Ccass 01-21-2002 02:15 PM

Ok, Now I have two separate places that have tested the hoods and report that they fit! There are two issues;

1. The body line between the scoops is slightly different.

2. There is extra metal in the scoop area that needs to be removed in order for the scoops to fit.

We talked to the distributor and we have made arrangements to have them drop shipped truck freight. Figure about $100-$150 depending on where in the U.S. you are. Or we are taking orders to deliver to the Spring Shows (Charlotte, Englishtown and Carlisle) to avoid shipping.

You can order them NOW! online. PYF80 $399/ea.

Chris, do you mean the hump in the middle (where everyone pushes down on the hood to close x-cept me of course!!!) is different where it doesn't meet the endura or is it the area just in between the scoops? Everyone who has owned a GTO for any length of time knows you wiggle the hood down. Anyways, two questions. How far is it from Columbus, OHIO to Hatfield,PA? How did the hood fit your 68? I'm working on my 68 conv. as we speak in dreary old Detroit and the hood is the last body panel I need! This is great. this just makes my week!!!! P.S. Chris, is this still the hood Goodmark scraped being distributed by someone else, or is their someone else producing this hood????

The line that goes just between the scoops. Most people wouldn't notice it. It can be completely removed by using a DA sander and about 1/2 hour labor. This is the SAME hood that Goodmark had been working on. I don't know the whole story, but they're out and another company is importing the hoods. I have not tested the hood myself, but have talked to two very reliable sources who say the fit is extremely good other than these two minor issues.

Columbus to Hatfield  at least 8 hours. We will NOT be stocking the hood until we can meet the distributor at a Spring Show to pick up some hoods. Incoming shipping would increase the price by $60. So We're drop shipping them for now. Drop ship to Columbus, OH to a Business would run around $70 I believe.

74gto 01-21-2002 10:22 PM

Chris, thanks for the reply!! I have to be in Columbus the middle of Feb for business, and thought if hatfield wasn't too far i would pick up a hood. I guess I'll have to wait till spring Carlisle. Thanks

Will PY be bringing any of these GTO hoods to Norwalk if so I want one.I can put it in my trailer and take it back to Canada.Save a few bucks on shipping.

Ccass 02-01-2002 02:21 PM

That's a long way off. It is best to call about 3-4 weeks before any show to make those type of arrangements. If we're coming and we have the hood, we'll bring it.

Gary meacham 02-18-2002 03:48 PM

Ccass, unrelated question..what do you think about the newly intruduced repro roof skin for 67-69 Firebirds?

Thanks

Gary..How do I get a license plate???

Ccass 03-12-2002 05:20 PM

We got several hoods in last week. They are available for pickup or shipment.

A455GTO 03-15-2002 11:32 PM

After rejecting yet another overpriced, rusty, POS original hood  I am seriously thinking about getting the reproduction hood. Has anyone gotten this hood, and actually fit it to their car? Any info would be appreciated.

Andre 03-21-2002 08:57 AM

You can't go wrong with this hood. It is a sweet piece. Now if you can still find one for the suggested retail of $399, I would say that you pounce on it. The supply of these was not that high, and I've seen them selling at the $475 mark at swap meets. Of course this is still a decent deal, as you wouldn't have to pay for shipping, and take a chance that the hood gets there in one piece. If I had one complaint, it would be that the box that it ships in, is not as robust as the 67-9 Firebird hood.

A455GTO 03-22-2002 01:28 AM

After I pick one up and my bodyman plays with it, I will post the results.
