I have a 1969 grand prix model J with a 428 and a posi. It will smoke it's tires for a long time if i just push the gas.

Same thing with my '65 Bonnie. I can leave rubber in the first 3 gears! It's a 4spd 421 HO convertible with Tripower!

Just took it out of storage (almost 3 years in barn) and it runs great!

Ahh, the magic of decent tires. You should have seen the burnout I could do before I put the Firehawks on there. The Firehawks are sticky enough that I didn't want to risk the driveline by repeated attempts. With the Firehawks you had to brake torque it enough to break the tires loose and then it would do it, and it was the loudest burnout I think I've ever heard. Even got a cop to come on by and tell me that I'm little too old to be acting that way. That was the first and last time I did it in the 66 with the Firehawks.

Too old! That's a good one. Jeeze. Probably the only way you got away with it.

You can tell those Firehawks are sticky by the way that sucker jerks you back when it changes gears under Acceleration. Aahhhh http://forums.performanceyears.com/g...icon_smile.gif

I have a set of Coopers already mounted on 8 lug rims that have that BF Goodrich style tread pattern. They only have 1000 miles on them & look like they are perfect fodder. I am dying to have somebody take a picture with smoke rolling out from under the skirts. I always loved that - juvenile elegance http://forums.performanceyears.com/g.../icon_cool.gif.

Those firehawks are very sticky tires. My '64 Catalina with the 389 could only break those loose during a turn. (This with a 1-legger)
The new 455 would break them loose, though...

Carfull when you do though, your car will spin out alot more easily
