I have been trying to find the year of my engine and some other features for the car I purchased this summer. I have been able to find out that the engine is in fact a 455 with the 455 stamped on the block in front of the motor mount on the drivers side. I am, however, unable to find a serial number on the block as of yet.

I have been able to find some stuff on the engine .........

I found the number 75 on the passenger side of the block by the distribitor hole. On the other side, I found the letters D and N. On the passenger side of the block, behind the head I found 500813. Does nayone know if these mean anything? I'm assuming that 75 is the year of the engine.
On the "fender tag", I found the following:

79 11D 2FS87 N 084286
628 19L 19U L
A51 CC1 A31 Y84 (so m Iknow it is a Y84 car now)
TAN 630381

79 is obviously the year. Any help deciphering these #'s would be appreciated. Thanks!

EDIT: Well, I have been able to find out that 2FS87 was on all tags as that denotes the standard Firebird/Trans Am body. 19U indicates that the car was originally black.

Anyone else have any ideas?

Hope this helps
line 1
79 (year of car) 11d (day and month built)
2fs87 (body style number) n (plant built at norwood) 084286 (the remaining numbers comprise the consecutive body number which has no direct correlation to the vin)
line 2
628 (is the trim code) 19l (paint code lower part of car ) 19u (paint code upper part of car) L (lacquer paint)
line 3
a51 ( is the modular seat code ) cc1 (t-tops) a31 (power windows) y84 ? (you sure it ain't y89)
line 4
tan (color of int) 630381 ( has not yet been deciphered)
This is from hpp june 95
As for the motor look on pass side front just below the head above the timming chain cover there should be two letters with so numbers under it the two letters will let you know all about your motor
and your motor may be a 76 built in 75 for a 76 car

Thank you Rob. It definitely says Y84 and not Y89! ;)
I looked for the serial number but was unable to find it as of yet. It is hard to get around the hoses and such and the engine has paint and grime etc. I will find it though. :D
