The previous owner of my 70 GTO painted the hood scoops Carousel Red along with the rest of the car. I am doing a little touch up and want to paint the scoops black like they should be, but I don't know what to use. Is the original a flat black or matt or gloss? I would like to be as close to original as possible. Is there anyone that reproduces the exact paint?

Only the ram air cars are black.

What about the 455 ram air cars? I'm in the middle of having my car painted and would love to KNOW whether the scoops should be painted the body color (Atoll Blue) or black?

Thanks

The key is Ram Air- regardless of what engine is under the hood. With Ram Air- black scoops. Without- body color.
Now, as for the correct gloss, I seem to recall most being gloss black. But, since I don't have a RA car, this is only from what I recall seeing on other cars.
As for "reproduction" paint- just get black, and mix in flatting base if required for a semi-gloss or flat color. There is no need to go out and pay for "unique" black paint- black is black, and gloss is just a simple matter of mixing in an additive.
OEM Paints company must make a TON of money off of restorers who aren't familar with the local auto body supply/paint shop...
