Does anyone make a base/clear system that I can spray in my garage and not have to use a clean air system? I would really like to do the epoxy primer and surfacer without having to rent a respirator. If everything could go on with just a charcoal filter mask, that would be great.

I don't think so. All 2K paint systems usually have ISOs in them as that is the catalyst that hardens the paint.

I bought a fresh air mask, $79, and used my smaller old oil-less compressor to feed it. I had a HEPA filter on the intake and exhaust of the compressor, added a valve to control the amount of air it fed the mask, and ran it outside the garage, away from any fumes.

Worked like a champ.

Hey Trim, Most non-iso products went by the wayside some time ago. (Durability issues) A couple of ways to cut down on exposure are to use an HVLP spraygun,(65% transfer eff. vs. 35-8% Conv. guns.) Cover your skin well, and increase air flow through your garage. The last one will also help you avoid solvent drop and a less than glossy clear. Neighbors and bugs could be a problem. Just some of my thoughts and input. Good spraying! irgoatmike

Thanks for the response. I will start working on a fresh air supply...

Dupont is working or has already a non-isocyanate paint called 50P POLYACRYL ANHYRIDE ENAMEL. Don't know if it's available or what the applications are. But it is to answer those who want a 2 part paint that does not contain isocyanate's.
