I own a stock 72' GTO that I would like to have fully restored (frame-off). Mostly exterior work, with minor engine work (67,000 miles). I would prefer a "dedicated GTO" shop with an excellent reputation. I live in Dallas, but location is secondary to quality. Any recommendations??

The most noteworthy restorers are Scott Tieman, in Portland, Mich. and Gary Cave in Clinton, Md.

I think that there is a good one in the Houston area, but I don't remember his name. He did a friends '67 Corvette 427/435 roadster. Won "best of show" the first time out at a National Corvette meet in Florida.

Glenn, Thanks for the names. Do you have any other contact information (website, Company name, e-mail, address, ect)?

Scott Tiemann, 517-647-2433
Gary Cave, 301-868-3483

Both are technical advisors to the GTOAA.

They are usually both back-up for a year or more. You might ask them for additional recommendations.

The salient point here should what type of frame-off resto does one want? Is car going to be driven?

Big difference price wise between the following frame-off jobs:
-high point driver with bunch of nos parts used.
-a national restorer's interpretation of concours.
-highly researched, every detail, cutting edge concours.

If money is no object (rarely is!) then I suggest you reseach White Post restorations in White Post VA.

World-class.

There is a guy in the Dallas area that specializes in the 2nd gen firebirds but has done some GTO's. I have no experience with him personally but you might check him out.
