Many components, including the engine block and transmission, utilized an abreviated V.I.N. that included the division number (2), the year of manufacture (in your case 4), the assembly plant code (P for Pontiac etc.), and the six-digit sequence number of the original car.

I think my 73 PG coded 400 has 5 numbers, the last 5 of my vin if i remember correctly. Maybe it's 6... the mind slips much like my 2-3 shift... http://forums.performanceyears.com/g...on_biggrin.gif
