I looked at the Jeg's site for some ideas of what kind of distributor I can use for my car (My car has been through 2 in 1 year, it went at random for no reason, got a replacement, then that blew up 8 months later, at random, IN THE MIDDLE OF TRYING TO RUN MY CAR FOR THE FIRST TIME AFTER THE REBUILT ENGINE - I WAS SO MAD!!!!) Needless to say, I want an aftermarket distributor that is reliable. I saw the MSD billeted one in Jeg's, but it said they can only be used with the MSD ignition control units, unless it's specified as "Ready to Run" or something like that. They had no "Ready to Run" option for the Pontiac V8......Do they make any MSD models that will just replace the original distributor and not need a whole new ignition system? I also saw the Pertronix Flamethrower distributor there, for less $ as well, has anyone had experience with those? Any other brands that you guys use? Thanks for the input!

What went wrong with the 2 distributors that you had in the engine? Did the gear get chewed up or what?

The first one, I do not really remember. I don't think it was the gears, it just didn't start all of a sudden and had no spark. It wasn't the coil or anything, which I had tried changing, I forget. The gears weren't torn up. It looks to be the rotor, when I spun it, the little points did not line up when they passed by. I know I have electronic ignition, so I am using that term loosely; they were pointed objects. I don't know much about distributors, just that they crapped out on me; this was just a rebuild/replacement, that I had under warranty, and got another replacement for now....Sorry, I don't know exaclty what the part name was that went the second time around. Grr.
