I have a 80 firebird with a 77 chevy 350 in it. I have a chance to pick up a 71 Pontiac 400. Still working on getting the engine codes and numbers but it is a complete engine. Now aside from the general idea of putting a pontiac in a pontiac instead of a chevy, does this swap make sense? What other factors will need to be changed or modified aside from the transmission and mounts? Thanks for any info you can give me folks.

What was originally in the F-bird? If it has a Turbo 350 it might have the dual pattern bellhousing. Make sure you get all the brackets with the engine. Use headers if you can. Get an HEI distributor for ease of hook up.
The engine not being original in either case will most likely have no effect on the value. A Pontiac person would prefer the 400 while a Chevy fan would of course want the 350. It depends on who ends up buying it when you sell it.
